Unfortunately, in most Hungarian flats, the kitchen isn’t as spacious as we’d really like it to be. If this sounds familiar, don’t despair! With the right layout, you can make the most of even the smallest of spaces! Even a single-row kitchen offers plenty of possibilities – we’ve put together a few tips to help with the planning.
It’s the perfect fit for an open-plan kitchen
If with an American-style kitchen If you have a living room, a single-row layout is one of the best options. This is because we’re only using a single wall of the room. The worktop, all the kitchen cupboards, shelves and kitchen appliances are placed along this wall, thus avoiding a cluttered look.

Spotlight on the kitchen
Since a single-row kitchen is often open-plan kitchen, so it can be seen from several points in the flat. It therefore plays a very important role in creating the atmosphere of the whole flat. Choose kitchen cupboards that match the rest of the flat, and don’t forget the kitchen splashback nor about its importance. Many people opt for a more neutral feature wall, but if you’re feeling bold, you can make the overall effect truly unique with a tastefully striking choice.

Make the most of your storage options
In a small, single-row kitchen, it can be difficult to find enough space for the for storage. But with clever planning, this needn’t be a problem. Alongside the lower row of cupboards, the upper cupboards play a major role and can even reach right up to the ceiling. If there is enough space up to the ceiling, we can even install a double row of cupboards.

A kitchen island might be just the thing
The single-row kitchen layout is often complemented by fixed or movable with a kitchen island, which provide an attractive division between the kitchen and the rest of the flat. These not only provide extra worktop space, but can also be used for dining or storage.

If you don’t want a kitchen island, a narrow kitchen table can serve the purpose very well. You can eat, chat and do homework here – the whole family will certainly be able to make use of it.

Open shelves for a more airy look
If you’ve carefully planned exactly how much storage space you need, and you feel you can „do without” a few wall units, then open shelves are the way to go! If there are too many closed cupboards, it can create a cluttered look, but this can be mitigated by using shelves or kitchen cupboards with glass doors.

We cannot emphasise enough the importance of technical planning when designing a kitchen! The advantage of a single-row kitchen is that the installation of building services is easier than in other for kitchen layouts is much easier to solve in comparison.
However, the distances involved in carrying out tasks are the longest here. To put it simply, this is where you have to move about the most whilst baking and cooking. It therefore matters how and where the various functions are laid out. It is also important to leave sufficient worktop space free, whilst ensuring that we have adequate storage capacity.
So, this seemingly simple layout is by no means as straightforward to design as one might think.
