The first step in kitchen design is to work out the layout itself. To make the most of the space, the most important thing is to assess the layout and not stick to a format that doesn’t suit the room you have available. In the first part of our series, we present three layout styles that are very popular on the market.
Single-row kitchen
We wholeheartedly recommend the single-row layout for smaller kitchens, as it allows us to incorporate all the necessary features without making the space feel too cramped. In this case, we essentially make use of just one wall of the room, where the kitchen cupboards, shelves and other kitchen fittings are situated.
Tips for single-row kitchen units
Make the most of the vertical space! As width is limited, this is where we can expand upwards. You could even double the number of wall units, which would instantly double your storage capacity. The traditional design of the kitchen triangle This isn’t possible here, so we recommend the following layout: have the fridge at one end, the oven and hob in the middle, and the sink at the other end.
Two-row kitchen
In the case of a two-row kitchen, we make use of two walls facing each other, between which a sort of „passageway” is effectively created. There is no need here for corner units, which can really drive up the cost when using off-the-shelf kitchen units. With bespoke kitchen units, this does not usually pose a problem.
Tips for double-row kitchen units
Let’s make sure there’s enough space between the two rows of cupboards, but not too much! As for How much space should be left between the various elements?, as we’ve mentioned in a previous article. If the space between the two walls is small, we shouldn’t clutter the area any further; however, if we have plenty of space, we could even fit in a kitchen island. It’s very important to group the work areas (e.g. hob, sink) on one side, as this will allow you to move around the kitchen efficiently.
L-shaped kitchen
An ideal layout for both small and large kitchens. The L-shaped kitchens In this case, we design the cupboards to face two walls at right angles to each other. This creates a corner in our kitchen, which we can make excellent use of by choosing bespoke kitchen furniture and employing clever design solutions. In a layout like this, the kitchen triangle is very easy to achieve; it’s truly practical, and it’s no coincidence that so many people love it.
Tips for L-shaped kitchens
The two wall surfaces offer a wealth of possibilities and endless storage capacity. Here, too, we can use a double row of wall units, but to avoid a cluttered look, we can opt for shelving solutions instead of a second row of wall units. If we have enough space, an L-shaped kitchen is the perfect layout even if We’re dreaming of a kitchen island.
