A kitchen lighting Careful planning is more important than we might think. It is not a good idea to use too few light sources, as this can pose a safety hazard, nor is it worth including an excessive number of light fittings unnecessarily. In this article, we’d like to discuss the importance of kitchen worktop lighting and explain why we believe it is not just a passing fad, but an accessory that serves a genuinely important function.
3 in 1
In our previous article We have already written in detail about the different types of lighting techniques available. To list them: functional lighting, decorative lighting and mood lighting. Built-in kitchen worktop lighting can actually fulfil all three functions; it simply isn’t worth leaving it out of the equation.

Functional lighting
It is very important that the kitchen is as safe as possible, and for this it is essential that the worktop is well lit. After all, we carry out many tasks here that could even pose a serious risk of injury. One such example is when we’re using a knife; if there isn’t enough light in the kitchen, we could easily cut our finger. Kitchen worktop lighting directs the light exactly where it’s needed, so you’ll still be safe even if you switch off all the other lights in the room.
Decorative and mood lighting
LED lighting built into a cupboard is not only practical, but looks great too! In open-plan kitchens, it can also serve as mood lighting. Just think how lovely it is on a sleepy, dark winter’s morning not to be confronted by a bright glare straight away, but simply switch on the row of LEDs built into our kitchen units, by the light of which we can cook and sip our coffee in peace. Or just how cosy it is to enjoy a romantic moment with your partner over a glass of wine, with lighting that’s there, yet not there. This type of lighting enhances our kitchen units, so it’s not only practical but also serves as a decorative feature. We can choose from several colour temperatures; we usually recommend the warmer shades.

Efficient operation
The new types of LED light sources consume up to 90% less energy than traditional lighting. Particularly in winter, with energy prices on the rise, it really does matter what kind of light source we use. These bulbs can have a lifespan of up to 50,000–100,000 hours, so there is no need to worry that replacing them will become a constant and frequent problem.
Safety and practicality
A huge advantage of these LED strips is that they are safe to touch. They do not get hot, so there is no need to worry about them causing a fire.
The LED lighting is custom-fitted into our furniture; it fits perfectly, with no protruding or mismatched edges or corners. The wires are also concealed, so our LED worktop lighting not only fails to detract from the aesthetics of our kitchen furniture, but actually enhances them.

We always recommend this solution to our customers, but of course our kitchen units – as they are made to order – are also available without LED worktop lighting. Whatever style of kitchen furniture you choose, thanks to our decades of experience and our in-house production line, we can adapt flexibly to our customers’ needs.
