Grey is generally considered a boring colour, but not in the kitchen! It’s simply the perfect choice, and that’s exactly what we’d like to prove to you now. What’s more, grey is a timeless colour – you won’t get tired of it even after years have gone by; in fact, alongside white, it’s one of the newest trends to emerge.
Don’t worry that grey kitchen cupboards will make the space look dark or gloomy! There are countless shades to choose from, and once you’ve created the right layout and composition, you won’t even think of that preconception afterwards. This is one of the reasons why we don’t usually recommend black on our own initiative – there are very few spaces where it really looks good. Choosing grey could be a good compromise instead. Grey is by no means boring, as there are countless shades, and it gives us plenty of scope when designing the kitchen furniture.
Blue-grey kitchen units
This shade is reminiscent of a pleasantly cooling seaside storm. It is a cooler shade of grey that lends the space a truly elegant feel. It combines very well with metallic elements; for example, gold or nickel go superbly with it. It looks good with both light and dark flooring; classic wooden flooring, for instance, complements it perfectly.
Dove grey for a modern look
This shade lies at the lighter end of the grey spectrum, reminiscent of a misty morning sky or the wing of a pigeon. It also combines well with both darker and lighter colours. By maintaining the right proportions and complementing it with white, you can achieve an airy effect. Feel free to pair it with a textured feature wall; it looks particularly good when you move away from plain, single-colour options. It looks elegant with a wooden or marble worktop, and silver and gold accessories also complement it perfectly.
Shades of greenish-grey
Greenish-grey kitchen units can really lend the room a natural feel. This shade of grey has a calming effect and creates a relaxed atmosphere in the kitchen. To enhance this effect, brown, white, dove grey and tan are good choices to pair with it.
Greyish beige
This shade of grey, which verges slightly on beige, is a blend of two neutral colours that fits perfectly into the kitchen. Grey and beige go well together anyway; they make a truly harmonious pairing. It’s beautiful on its own, but it really comes into its own when complemented by neutral tones.

Charcoal grey can be an ideal alternative to black if you’re looking to achieve a softer effect. It’s simple yet distinctive, and pairs well with both neutral and coloured tones. Combined with white, it creates a truly distinctive effect; this pairing is simply stunning.
Elephant-grey kitchen cupboards
Elephant grey creates a very natural effect and can be classified as one of the cooler shades. It works well in both traditional and modern spaces, and pairs beautifully with darker wood-effect materials or even marble. It also looks excellent with a traditional – yet currently very fashionable in modern kitchen furniture – metro tile splashback, allowing us to achieve a classic yet contemporary look.
