Small L-shaped kitchens

An L-shaped layout means that the entire kitchen is arranged along two adjacent walls. It can be an excellent solution even in small kitchens, allowing you to make the most of the available space. We’d now like to show you some inspiration for this layout.

A classic, small white kitchen

This kitchen doesn’t seem nearly as small as it actually is, thanks to the well-chosen colour scheme and the relatively large window opposite the doorway. The classic, milled kitchen units shine in white, beautifully complemented by the white tiled splashback, as well as the light wood-effect worktop and light-coloured flooring. White is also a good choice for a small kitchen because it reflects light and makes the space appear larger.

Traditional, grey kitchen furniture

This kitchen isn’t quite as narrow as the previous one, so an additional wall-mounted cupboard has been included next to the window. In our opinion, this could have been omitted or at least replaced with a shelf, if extra storage was required. What does, however, justify this solution is that they opted for a version with glass doors rather than a fully enclosed one, thereby reducing the feeling of clutter. It’s worth using this trick in other kitchens too, if you want to make the overall effect feel more airy.

L-shaped, open-plan kitchen

The L-shaped layout isn’t just suitable for enclosed spaces; it can also be a good solution for open-plan kitchens. This could even have been a closed-off kitchen, but knocking down the wall has made the whole interior feel much more airy. When designing a living room with an open-plan kitchen, it’s always worth considering whether a kitchen island or a breakfast bar would be the best choice; here, the latter was chosen. It’s worth noting how the handles, the sink and the tap all harmonise in colour. For the perfect overall look, we might have chosen a different oven, but the end result is still clean and minimalist.

Making the most of vertical space in the kitchen

If you reckon you’ll need plenty of storage space, it’s worth considering doubling the number of wall units. Be careful, though, as this doesn’t always look very attractive, as it can make the interior feel very cluttered. In this open-plan kitchen, only closed kitchen cupboards have been fitted, which is practical because any „clutter” can be hidden away behind them.

A small and practical L-shaped kitchen

This kitchen is quite tiny, yet it has room for everything its user needs. The kitchen cupboards are closed and handle-free, which is complemented very nicely by the 3D splashback. Next to the window is a shelving unit, which not only looks stylish with the matching items and utensils displayed on it, but also serves as a storage surface.

Fitting out a small kitchen requires great care, as every little nook and cranny must be utilised, whilst at the same time avoiding a feeling of clutter. If you don’t have a large floor area, it’s definitely worth choosing bespoke, made-to-measure furniture.
