The kitchen splashback is not just a design feature; it also protects the wall whilst you’re cooking. It’s important to choose a high-quality material that’s easy to clean, as this can save you a great deal of effort and money in the long run. However, we shouldn’t overlook the fact that the splashback plays a major role in setting the overall atmosphere of our kitchen.
A glass splashback looks just as good in classic as in modern kitchens
The glass back panel isn’t just attractive; it’s also very durable and, what’s more, really easy to keep clean. It isn’t the cheapest option, but if you can afford it, it’s an excellent choice – you’ll be satisfied with it in every respect.
It is generally used in modern kitchens, as it perfectly complements clean, minimalist elements. Feel free to experiment with colours; if you have light-coloured kitchen units, don’t hesitate to choose a colourful splashback. As we can see in this kitchen, you can incorporate lighting – you can even illuminate the entire splashback – to create a cosier atmosphere.
However, we don’t have to forego the benefits of a glass splashback even if we prefer a more traditional look. A splashback like this can also complement vintage-style kitchen furniture perfectly; in this case, however, we should exercise restraint with the colours. Light, pastel shades are generally the best choice. We do not recommend backlighting in this case, but you should definitely look for an alternative light source so that you do not have to work in the dark at the kitchen worktop.
Tiles never go out of fashion
Of course, we’re not talking about the old-school versions here. They’re available in an incredibly wide range, and the only limit to the unique solutions is our imagination! Tiled splashbacks are very durable and can be easily repaired if damaged. However, as the grouting makes them difficult to keep clean, we tend to recommend tile-effect splashbacks to our customers instead.
It also fits perfectly into modern kitchens, and as you can see in the picture, you don’t necessarily have to choose a uniform splashback for the whole kitchen. This design looks particularly good in a small kitchen like this, where we’ve used a splashback resembling traditional tiles around the sink, whilst on the adjacent wall we’ve chosen a different, more colourful option. This adds a little more texture to the small space.
It goes without saying just how well tiles suit more traditional-style kitchens. This glossier white splashback complements the matt dark green and white kitchen units beautifully.
If you’d like to create a slightly „more modern” look, choose tiles that are a different size and/or shape to the usual ones. As you can see with the kitchen units above, this elongated, unique design can add a touch of freshness to the space.
Always bear in mind that whilst design is important, quality is just as crucial when making your choice. After all, you’re usually planning a kitchen for the long term, and surely you wouldn’t want to be having it repaired every year?
