Whether you’re planning a completely new kitchen or looking to renovate an existing one, pay particular attention to planning your storage space! This is another aspect that is very difficult to rectify once the work is complete, so it’s worth thinking carefully in advance about what storage solutions you’ll need.

Closed kitchen cupboards

When we think of kitchen units, most of us picture rows of base and wall units. One of their greatest virtues is that they „swallow everything up”; we can hide just about anything behind their closed doors. We don’t even have to feel embarrassed in front of prying eyes, even if organising isn’t one of our favourite pastimes.

It is important to have enough cupboards in our kitchen, but as these are the most prominent design features in the room, we should also take care to find the right style! Even if we prefer single-colour options, the range of possibilities is still endless. We can choose matt or high-gloss, light or dark units, doors with handles or push-to-open mechanisms, and the colour and finish of the splashback can also make a significant difference.

Shelving solutions

Please note! Shelves aren’t for everyone. The items on the shelves are not protected from gathering dust, so it’s worth wiping them down more often. However, if you arrange things on them tastefully, it’s well worth the effort; what’s more, you can take items off them in an instant, which can make your daily routine easier.

Pull-out shelving units

A well-chosen, vertical, pull-out shelving unit can be extremely useful, both for making the most of the available space and for keeping things neatly organised.  You can store smaller, taller items in it, such as spices, cleaning products, cooking utensils, or even sort and organise certain ingredients. You should expect them to add a little to the overall cost of your kitchen furniture, but believe me, it’s worth it. We buy a kitchen for the long term, so it’s worth investing in things that will make our lives easier for many, many years to come.
