Have you chosen the style of your kitchen units? The design process doesn’t end there! The same kitchen units can look completely different with different splashbacks. Tiled splashbacks are still very much in fashion, which is no surprise, as they’re durable, easy to keep clean and come in a huge variety of styles on the market. We’d like to showcase a few of these now.

L-shaped metro tiles

 

An L-shaped metro tile can be either understated or bold, depending on the colour chosen. This kitchen features the more understated version. It’s fascinating to see how much more refined the end result is simply by changing the shape of the tiles, compared to if we’d chosen traditional metro tiles in the same colour. If you want to achieve a more cheerful, vibrant effect, feel free to choose tiles in different colours – the only limit to the number of variations is your imagination.

 

Narrow tiles with a subtle pattern

 

Thin tiles can be used to create countless patterns; in this case, the owners opted for a more understated design. The tiles, which come in different colours and sizes, complement each other perfectly; the combination is by no means overpowering, yet it adds a touch of vibrancy to traditional layouts that might otherwise be a little dull.

 

A bold herringbone pattern

 

The herringbone pattern has been a perennial favourite on popularity lists for a very long time, making a comeback in interior design from time to time. In this kitchen, the focus is definitely on the splashback, which – whilst a bold choice – sits perfectly alongside the delicate, understated, white, brushed fronts. Of course, there are more understated colour options available for this style too; if this shade of green is a little too bold for some, there are plenty of other choices to choose from.

 

One colour, multiple layouts

 

Here we see a perfect example of how to break up the monotony of longer, single-row kitchens. The tiles are all the same colour, but the traditional metro tiles have been complemented by a herringbone pattern. In fact, the same tiles have been used here, with only the layout varied; however, with tiles of the same colour, a similar effect can be achieved even with tiles of different sizes.

 

Think vertically, not horizontally

 

Tiles are usually laid horizontally, but why not break with tradition? As we can see in this picture, these vertically laid tiles really liven up the simple, white kitchen units. We’d also wholeheartedly recommend this pattern if, due to the layout of the room, only a narrower kitchen unit can be fitted, as it visually elongates the composition.
